 . Jerry .

  • White German Shepherd
  • Up-to-date with routine shots
  • Spayed/Neutered
June 17, 2014: Jerry is a gorgeous 1 year old AKC registered white German Shepherd. He was surrendered by his owners to the St. Louis County Animal Control in February because they were moving. Lucky for Jerry, AC called Serendipity and we were there to get him out immediately. Jerry has been with his foster family for 4 months now and is ready for his forever home. He has been fully vetted and has a completely clean bill of health. All his shots are up to date, he is neutered, negative for heartworm and parasites, and is microchipped. Jerry was significantly underweight when we picked him up at 65 pounds. Since then he is up to 76 pounds and the vet recently had us increase his food again! He eats 4 cups of kibble and 1.5 cans of wet food daily! A healthy weight given his height would be between 85 and 90 pounds. Jerry is VERY smart, walks perfectly on lead and knows all of his commands: Sit, down, stay, leave it and off but his off leash recall still needs some work unless of course you are holding pieces of hotdog. He is completely housetrained and crate trained. His house manners are getting better but you still can’t leave anything laying around (shoes, socks, toilet paper, etc). Jerry would do best with an active family. He has a lot of energy and needs a lot of exercise. A daily walk and at least 15-20 minutes of playing fetch help a lot with the unwanted behavior. Jerry loves going on car rides. He is very calm in the car and after the first 15 minutes of looking out the window he likes to lay down and take a nap. He is very sweet and loving with his foster family but is a little fearful of strangers and definitely doesn’t like uniforms. Jerry needs slow and careful introductions to new visitors and would be best placed in a home without a lot of visitor traffic and an experienced GSD owner to provide proper leadership so this doesn’t develop into a problem. He also would be best in a home without small children as he has a tendency to want to herd little people. Jerry has been very well socialized with other dogs and does great with dogs of all sizes although when the energy level gets too high he gets a bit rough and needs to be supervised and/or corrected. He is still very much a puppy but a very BIG one. He lives in a foster home with two other GSDs: a male (age 1) and a female (age 9). He quickly learned his place in the pack and is submissive with the older alpha female and playful with the male puppy. His foster family has not observed any guarding behaviors of food, toys or humans. He has also started Doggie Day Camp and is doing well. He is curious with his foster family’s cat but does not seem to have an overly high prey drive. He will sit and watch the squirrels, turkey, birds and frogs in the yard but is obedient when told to leave it. That said, if he is placed in a home with small furry animals they should be supervised and have an escape route. Jerry is an amazing dog and is adored by his foster family who is very protective and will screen all potential applicants carefully. LOL! If you are interested in meeting Jerry please complete the online application. ********** Adoption Fee: $350 ********** Visit our website for more information about our adoptable dogs, policies, and a link to our Facebook page. April 24, 2014: My name is Bella. I'm looking for my furever home. My foster mom says I’m a great companion. I like to go for rides, hang out with her and work, go for walks and hikes, and did I mention I really like to go for rides! I’m happy and easy to get along with but I do need direction, cause I'm a Shepherd. My foster brother says 'easiest dog ever' but I think he is partial. I got along fine with a female Belgian Malinois and would do well with a male who is stable. Little kids are fine too, as long as they are respectful and leave a little jelly on their face for licking. My foster mom has not had the opportunity to test me around small dogs but I love to chase anything that runs from me so it is probably not the best fit. It is not my fault, I'm just a Shepherd. I am potty trained, kennel trained and know my basic commands. Look forward to meeting you soon! Bella is a great dog and would make a wonderful companion for a family or a single person. I call her ‘a princess’ because when she is happy she prances around and does a little dance. I have had no issues with Bella at all. She responds well to verbal commands and has gotten along with other dogs I have been around. However, if a dog gets aggressive with her she will stand her ground. Bella, like all shepherds needs to have boundaries and consistency. ********** Adoption Fee: $350 ********** Visit our website for more information about our adoptable dogs, policies, and a link to our Facebook page. April 22, 2014: Boo Boo is currently seeking a forever home - she's a happy-go-lucky GSD mix, who has a tail wag for everyone she meets. She loves all people, and gets along well with other dogs (has not been cat tested with us). She is house broken, crate trained, and does well on a leash. Even though she is small in stature, Boo has a ton of energy and her adoptive family will need to be able to walk her or spend a fair amount of time (daily) with playing fetch and/or tug of war. We have been working on basic manners, and she's doing well with 'sit', 'down' and 'here', but daily practice is needed at this point. Boo is eager to learn, picks up quickly, and is treat motivated. I think she would really benefit from a training course (maybe Petsmart basic/intermediate classes?) just to improve upon what she's learning and help make her the best possible... I also suggest this, because sometimes it's hard to get her to focus when our dogs are milling around in the background ..especially if mine think I'm handing out treats (lol!) She would do well with another dog, or as a single. Overall, she's really just a delightful little girl, easy to get along with and a huge lover. ********** February 2, 2014: Meet boo-boo! While her ears may not stand up and her stature may be small, this girl is full of love and really wants to find a home. Boo-boo will make the journey from Miami to the Midwest next week and would love to find a family when she gets here. She has been kenneled with other dogs and does well with them. We think boo-boo is the bomb! Let us know if you feel the same. ********** Adoption Fee: $200 ********** Visit our website for more information about our adoptable dogs, policies, and a link to our Facebook page. January 9, 2014: Heidy is an 8 year old mellow spayed German Shepherd who came to North Central shelter (Los Angeles, CA) with Sam and Marley. The owners surrendered them due to financial reasons. Sam was already adopted but Heidy and Marley were pulled together to come to Serendipity. Heidy is very mellow and affectionate. She is getting along wtih the other dog in the foster home. She is underweight but her foster is working to put weight on her. She is being introduced to the cat in the home and so far is doing well.
